Longtime lurker here, I'm originally from Raleigh and With a population of 27,458, Pearl is a smaller city. Homes are going for about $170,900 on average. Rent is about $1,152/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 3.9%, which is pretty low. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Worth the trade-offs? Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Old Town. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in real estate. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'm a project manager and I've found the quality of life is solid. The community is average and there's always something going on.
