Not sure if this has been asked before, but My family moved here when I was a kid. Rent is about $1,759/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider — Pearland sits at 89.5 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Anyone in a similar situation? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 53, moved here 13 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Riverside and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The nightlife situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for singles. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $50K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Austin about 2 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.
