Hello, I'm a teacher here and It's a a mid-size city city with about 126K people. The median home value here is around $330,900, which seems about average. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. Does this match your experience? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Riverside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 15 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
