Hi all, You can expect to pay around $1,895 for rent here. Median household income is $91,042, which feels pretty solid for the area. Household incomes average around $91,042 in Peekskill. Crime rate is something to consider -Peekskill sits at 123.8 per 100K. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Thanks! The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely tough and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (The Heights) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in tech. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from San Francisco about 8 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is tough.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Seattle about 15 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is decent.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in South for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
- The safety scene is decent
The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 15 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.
