What surprised you most about Peekskill?

Hi all, I've been here for 4 years and Rent is about $1,895/month for a decent place. It's a a smaller city city with about 25,484 people. Household incomes average around $91,042 in Peekskill. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. Any help is appreciated. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Old Town) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- The outdoor recreation scene is tough

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Feel free to reach out with questions..
