The good and bad of living in Pennington Gap

Hey everyone, Been living here since 2013. Median household income is $22,857, which feels on the lower side for the area. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to.

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Houston about 14 years ago. The main reasons were work and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is challenging.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..

Bought a house here in 2019 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
