Curious what people think. I'm a remote worker and Crime rate is something to consider — Peoria sits at 233.1 per 100K. It's a a mid-size city city with about 194K people. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Any advice would be great. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much wild but now it's hit or miss.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in construction. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Cedar Grove for 10 years. Moved from Portland for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
education is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is improving - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Cedar Grove schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited shopping options. Dating scene is rough. And food scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 8/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Bought a house here in 2016 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone about the same since then.
