Alright, Poverty rate is 6.0%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 73°F, so it's warm year-round. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. Am I overthinking this? The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Midtown. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in retail. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 6 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 29, moved here 3 years ago from New York. I've lived in Uptown and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Close to major attractions
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The weather situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for young professionals. solid vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
