Peoria is underrated, change my mind

OK so I'm a nurse at the local hospital and With a population of 112K, Peoria is a mid-size city. Homes are going for about $149,500 on average. Household incomes average around $58,716 in Peoria. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Low crime in most areas
- Easy commute
- Plenty of shopping options
- Active local events

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Cold winters
- Rising rent prices
- Limited nightlife
Any advice would be great. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Used to live on the South side, now on the Riverside side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely average and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Midtown) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
