Affordable areas near Percy?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but With a population of 1,014, Percy is a small town. Median household income is $42,813, which feels on the lower side for the area. The median home value here is around $88,500, which is actually reasonable. Average temperature is around 55--F, so the weather is moderate. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Pros:
- Good schools
- Close to nature
- Diverse community
- Low taxes
- Lots of new development

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Boring for young people
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homelessness issues downtown
Appreciate any input. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Riverside area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 1 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Uptown for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- The job market scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Uptown for 12 years. Moved from Portland for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Limited entertainment options. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 6/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been here 7 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is pretty good in most areas.
