First post here. I relocated for work and The median home value here is around $431,900, which is pretty steep. Anyone in a similar situation?

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is underrated in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Nashville about 7 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much pricey but now it's improving.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Maple Ridge for 6 years. Moved from Austin for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is average - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Far from beaches/mountains. And walkability can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 7/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in South. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like seafood.
