Remote worker thinking about Perry Heights

Random thought, Just moved here 2 months ago and Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. Median household income is $63,288, which feels about average for the area. You can expect to pay around $922 for rent here. Poverty rate is 6.6%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $63,288 in Perry Heights. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Anyone in a similar situation? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 6 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely decent and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Springfield) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in South. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'm a data analyst and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Denver about 1 years ago. The main reasons were work and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is excellent.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
