Hi all, Household incomes average around $58,490 in Perth Amboy. Homes are going for about $339,200 on average. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Should I be concerned? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from LA about 4 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Definitely worth checking out..

Bought a house here in 2024 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. weather used to be much established but now it's average.
