First post here. Born and raised here. The median home value here is around $834,900, which is pretty steep. Rent is about $2,379/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 58--F, so the weather is moderate. With a population of 59,321, Petaluma is a smaller city. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Is this normal for Petaluma? The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 6 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely decent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Midtown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
