I've lived in Old Town for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The outdoor recreation scene is excellent

The downsides:

I've been in Meadowbrook for 6 years. Moved from San Francisco for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

The market right now is solid. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is decent - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

Background: I'm a social worker, 47, moved here 7 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Westside and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Close to major attractions
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Limited shopping options
3. The outdoor recreation situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for young professionals. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $40K-$130K here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Raleigh about 6 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is underrated.
