Honest thoughts on life in Pevely

Hi all, The unemployment rate is 3.7%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 10.9%, which is around average. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Worth the trade-offs? Thanks in advance! Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Highland. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in finance. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Fairview. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Highland for 8 years. Moved from Portland for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Dating scene is rough. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 6/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Bought a house here in 2024 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

I've lived in Fairview for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The healthcare scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The community vibe is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is tough in most areas.
