We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Midtown area are excellent. Kids love it here.

Used to live on the Maple Ridge side, now on the Old Town side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 26, moved here 8 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Old Town and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Good healthcare facilities
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The walkability situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for singles. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Houston about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 15 years ago. The main reasons were school and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is challenging.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Lakewood for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good airport with direct flights
- The traffic scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Summers can be brutally hot

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 14 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.
