Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The walkability is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I work in tech here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is better than expected. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Midtown. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in tech. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely pretty good and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Greenfield. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in education. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 7 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
