So, Been living here since 2016. The median home value here is around $160,000, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 38,477, Phenix City is a smaller city. Crime rate is something to consider -Phenix City sits at 643.9 per 100K. Homes are going for about $160,000 on average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Thoughts? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. dating scene used to be much competitive but now it's pretty good.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Baltimore it's underrated.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 4 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Eastside for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- The public transit scene is tough
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely decent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (North) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Came here for work and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The traffic is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Seattle about 4 years ago. The main reasons were family and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Summers can be brutally hot
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are growing, gas is improving.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Baltimore about 11 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..
