Most overrated things about Phenix City

Anyone else feel this way? We're a young couple and Rent is about $926/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 3.5%, which is pretty low. With a population of 38,477, Phenix City is a smaller city. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Good schools
- Low taxes
- Easy commute
- Active local events

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Lack of diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homelessness issues downtown
Would love some local perspective. Any help is appreciated. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 8 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely excellent and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (South) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Happy to answer more specific questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely improving and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Springfield) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

I've been here 5 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into running, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much manageable but now it's average.
