I work remote and chose Philadelphia specifically for the lifestyle. The school system in Fishtown is actually improving.
A friend just bought in Fishtown for K and I'm not sure if that was smart. With a population of 1,582,432, the city has a {city_feel}.
What I like:
- Friendly locals
- Strong local businesses
- Good farmers markets
What I don't:
- Traffic is getting worse
- Property taxes
- Wind never stops
- Not much to do late at night
Traffic has gotten noticeably worse in the past year. The airport connections are improving which matters if you travel.
Curious if others agree.

Let me give you the perspective nobody asked for but everyone needs.
I've lived in Brewerytown, University City, and currently in Queen Village. Each one feels like a different city honestly.
Rent comparison:
- Brewerytown: /mo for a 3-bed
- University City: about /mo
- Queen Village: /mo but solid
People here are friendlier than I expected coming from {other}.. The key is finding your neighborhood. Once you do, Philadelphia really clicks.

Great question. Here's my honest take after 7 years:
The good:
- Good schools in certain areas
- Low commute times
- Strong local businesses
The not-so-good:
- Winters are harsh
- Wind never stops
Nightlife is decent if you know where to go.. I'd say for young professionals, Philadelphia is decent.

OK let me break this down from someone who's been here a while.
Graduate Hospital vs Queen Village: completely different vibes. Graduate Hospital is more pretty good with walkable streets and local shops. Queen Village is established and better for young professionals.
Cost-wise, expect /mo minimum for anything decent in Graduate Hospital. In Queen Village you can find stuff for /mo.
I don't understand why more people don't talk about {hood}.. Honestly the biggest downside is {downside}.
