Moving to Philadelphia — what should I know?

Hey everyone, The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What neighborhoods would you suggest?

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Highland area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

I work in construction here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is underrated. Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Lakewood for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- The cultural scene scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Phoenix it's decent.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Eastside for 12 years. Moved from Atlanta for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Chain restaurants dominate. And job market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 6/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for work and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The community vibe is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Riverside. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in government. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Hope this helps!.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
