Not sure if this has been asked before, but Poverty rate is 10.4%, which is around average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 6 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Bought a house here in 2018 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in South. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in engineering. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. No regrets on my end..

I work in construction here and I genuinely enjoy living here. The job market for my field is average. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Uptown for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- The public transit scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Hope this helps!.
