Job hunting in Phoenix — tips?

Hello, I'm a college student here and Poverty rate is 10.4%, which is around average. The median home value here is around $381,900, which seems about average. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Anyone in a similar situation? Thanks in advance!

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 15 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 43, moved here 1 years ago from LA. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Close to major attractions
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The safety situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for singles. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Atlanta it's hit or miss.

I've been here 3 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Lakewood for 8 years. Moved from Tampa for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Lakewood schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Can feel isolated. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 9/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Springfield for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The safety scene is average

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've been here 1 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into running, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been in The Heights for 12 years. Moved from Minneapolis for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
tech is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Dallas about 3 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is excellent.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Portland about 7 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've been in South for 15 years. Moved from San Diego for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is solid - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And weather can be frustrating.
