Not sure if this has been asked before, but Born and raised here. Average temperature is around 61--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a a small town city with about 17,992 people. Median household income is $104,955, which feels pretty solid for the area. Poverty rate is 1.8%, which is pretty low. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Would love some local perspective. Appreciate any input. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I've lived in North for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- The school system scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The nightlife is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Charlotte about 5 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is underrated.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
