Hey, I'm originally from Memphis and Crime rate is something to consider -Piney Mountain sits at 428.5 per 100K. Homes are going for about $284,000 on average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Am I wrong here? The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Atlanta about 13 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..
