Hey folks, I'm a remote worker and The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $298,300, which seems about average. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Phoenix about 12 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is solid.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Four distinct seasons
- The school system scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
