Moving to Pistakee Highlands -what should I know?

Longtime lurker here, I've been here for 20 years and It's a a small town city with about 3,214 people. Rent is about $1,864/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $1,864 for rent here. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Thanks! The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The school system is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
