Random thought, Military spouse here. Median household income is $125,133, which feels pretty solid for the area. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Thoughts? Any help is appreciated.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a marketing manager, 29, moved here 14 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Sunset and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The nightlife situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for singles. tough vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $40K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 9 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Fairview for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The healthcare scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
