Moving to Pittsburg with kids -good idea?

I'm a remote worker and Poverty rate is 8.2%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. TIA! The city has invested a lot in new development.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 2 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Denver about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Active local events and festivals
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is improving.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely decent and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely average and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Sunset) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in retail. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Riverside. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been here 9 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is surprisingly good.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Phoenix about 4 years ago. The main reasons were school and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options
- The dating scene scene is tough

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Summers can be brutally hot

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 39, moved here 5 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Fairview and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The school system situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for couples. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure
- The outdoor recreation scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
