Hey everyone, Crime rate is something to consider -Pittsburg sits at 605.7 per 100K. The weather takes some getting used to. What do you all think? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

I work in government here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is underrated. No regrets on my end..

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in North for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- The school system scene is tough
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 37, moved here 12 years ago from Houston. I've lived in North and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Low crime in most neighborhoods
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Urban sprawl is real
3. The public transit situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for couples. improving vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Feel free to reach out with questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Came here for family and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The weather is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely average and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (East) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
