Random thought, I relocated for work and Household incomes average around $64,137 in Pittsburgh. Average temperature is around 54°F, so expect cold winters. Poverty rate is 12.2%, which is around average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Let me know your thoughts. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 13 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Springfield. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in legal. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Italian.
No regrets on my end..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely better than expected and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (The Heights) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
