Curious what people think. I've been here for 14 years and Homes are going for about $233,700 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Pittsfield sits at 709.8 per 100K. It's a a smaller city city with about 43,559 people. You can expect to pay around $1,094 for rent here. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. What would you do? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

I've lived in West for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options
- The dating scene scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Nashville it's solid.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a social worker, 54, moved here 14 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in West and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The healthcare situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for remote workers. decent vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
