Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Boston it's decent.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Miami it's solid.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Oak Park. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Highland for 4 years. Moved from Houston for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is tough - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 9/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from San Diego about 10 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is underrated.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Used to live on the Springfield side, now on the Westside side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The food scene is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Lakewood for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The safety scene is decent

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 2 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
