Is it worth buying in Plainfield?
I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Average temperature is around 55--F, so expect cold winters. The median home value here is around $383,300, which seems about average. Rent is about $1,673/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Plainfield sits at 379.6 per 100K. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.
Pros:
- Good job market
- Nice parks and trails
- Easy commute
- Lots of new development
- Good airport connections
Cons:
- Limited dining options
- Boring for young people
- Poor road conditions
- Chain restaurants dominate
What do you all think? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.
