Freelancing from Plainview -experience?

Been meaning to ask this. You can expect to pay around $3,026 for rent here. Household incomes average around $185,531 in Plainview. With a population of 26,251, Plainview is a smaller city. The unemployment rate is 2.2%, which is pretty low. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What would you do? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The school system is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely tough and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Uptown) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 9 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is underrated.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. No regrets on my end..

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely better than expected and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Midtown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is cultural scene. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
