Life in Plano as a young professional

Alright, Just moved here 8 months ago and Poverty rate is 6.9%, which is pretty low. With a population of 11,626, Plano is a small town. Household incomes average around $83,102 in Plano. The unemployment rate is 3.7%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $221,100, which is actually reasonable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Pros:
- Good schools
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events

Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- High property taxes
- Homelessness issues downtown
Has anyone dealt with this? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Houston about 4 years ago. The main reasons were school and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is tough.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 39, moved here 3 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Downtown and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The safety situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for young professionals. underrated vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in South. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in tech. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Sunset for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- The school system scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The cost of living is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Eastside for 9 years. Moved from San Francisco for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is tough - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Limited entertainment options. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 9/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
