OK so The median home value here is around $440,600, which is pretty steep. Rent is about $1,792/month for a decent place. Median household income is $108,649, which feels pretty solid for the area. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Worth the trade-offs? The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely solid and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (South) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The school system is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Fairview for 14 years. Moved from Seattle for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
construction is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is solid - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Winters are long and cold. And public transit can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 6/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Tampa about 7 years ago. The main reasons were family and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is solid.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 1 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is average in most areas.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Maple Ridge. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like seafood.
No regrets on my end..

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.
