What I wish I knew before living in Plano

I'm a 26-year-old nurse and Crime rate is something to consider — Plano sits at 147.8 per 100K. It's a a mid-size city city with about 287K people. Rent is about $1,792/month for a decent place. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Low taxes
- Easy commute
- Lots of new development
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- Lack of diversity
- Boring for young people
Does this match your experience? Cheers. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Houston about 2 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is excellent.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..
