First time home buyer in Platte

I'm a college student here and The median home value here is around $165,700, which is actually reasonable. You can expect to pay around $860 for rent here. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Anyone in a similar situation? Looking forward to hearing from you all. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Came here for family and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The healthcare is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Seattle about 10 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.
