What I wish I knew before living in Plattekill

OK so I'm retired and The median home value here is around $275,000, which seems about average. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

I work in construction here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is solid. No regrets on my end..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Internet is underrated in most areas.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want job market, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely challenging and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Westside) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
