The median home value here is around $376,600, which seems about average. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a small town city with about 2,924 people. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Has anyone dealt with this? The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I've been in The Heights for 10 years. Moved from Nashville for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
legal is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Bugs and humidity in summer. And school system can be frustrating.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 9 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Nashville about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is underrated.
