Unpopular opinion about Pleasant Hill

OK so We're a young couple and The unemployment rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $144,513, which feels pretty solid for the area. Homes are going for about $1,040,600 on average. Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 13 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 29, moved here 13 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Lakewood and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The healthcare situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for singles. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $80K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much manageable but now it's excellent.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (West) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Tampa about 11 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is average.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Happy to answer more specific questions..

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in Springfield area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Salt Lake City it's hit or miss.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 15 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.
