Hey folks, We're a young couple and It's a a small town city with about 10,796 people. The unemployment rate is 4.6%, which is about average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in education. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 3 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Riverside for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- The food scene scene is decent
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Feel free to reach out with questions..
