OK so I've been here for 10 years and Household incomes average around $67,054 in Pleasant Hill. The unemployment rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $732/month for a decent place. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Thoughts? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. I've lived in Highland for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The public transit scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Rising rent and home prices
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
