Longtime lurker here, I'm a 23-year-old social worker and The median home value here is around $1,432,300, which is pretty steep. Rent is about $3,017/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. Thoughts? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 12 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've been here 5 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.
