OK so We have two kids and The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $186,206 in Pleasanton. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Would love some local perspective.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Maple Ridge. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in government. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Used to live on the Maple Ridge side, now on the Fairview side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a contractor, 42, moved here 7 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in South and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The pet-friendliness situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for retirees. improving vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $60K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 2 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.
