Honest thoughts on life in Pleasanton

Random thought, Crime rate is something to consider -Pleasanton sits at 823.1 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 1,434 people. With a population of 1,434, Pleasanton is a small town. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Thanks! It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Bought a house here in 2017 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Austin about 11 years ago. The main reasons were family and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is tough.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in The Heights. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Phoenix about 7 years ago. The main reasons were school and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is decent.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The cost of living is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Sunset for 10 years. Moved from Chicago for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is tough - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Limited entertainment options. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 8/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
