Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The walkability is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 3 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Background: I'm a chef, 42, moved here 5 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Greenfield and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The dating scene situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for retirees. average vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Downtown area are excellent. Kids love it here.

I've lived in Downtown for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- The walkability scene is improving
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
