Plymouth is underrated, change my mind

Longtime lurker here, I'm a 54-year-old graphic designer and The unemployment rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. With a population of 8,913, Plymouth is a small town. Homes are going for about $194,900 on average. Household incomes average around $67,784 in Plymouth. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Close to nature
- Lots of new development

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Limited nightlife
- Lack of diversity
- Limited cultural events
- Homelessness issues downtown

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely improving and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Midtown. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in education. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor recreation is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Downtown. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in tech. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
